Final Statement:

I wanted to end this process book on a small reflection of the past year. I really feel this year has shown me, that in a creative sense, anything is possible. I personally have really struggled this year like many others have, but one thing I can say confidently is I still managed to adapt and create something to be proud of. By no means did I think I would create anything like I have done, from the style to the topic to the execution. But, with good teamwork and a level of determination to end on a high, we have created something that hopefully will inform audiences of what Onlyfans, in an engaging, contemporary and entertaining way. I can leave this year with something that truly represents hard work and creativity and something that demonstrates the skills I have developed over the past 3 years.

How our documentary follows the 6 main questions - Kevin B Lee:

What? We are looking to explore the themes surrounding the massive platform that is Onlyfans and what it is like for a creator on this platform. From both the perspective of being an Onlyfans creator for a while and on the other side showing what it's like starting up as a creator on the platform.  Who? is the story about, yourself others? Screen interactions showing the relationship between people. This documentary will focus predominantly on Josee and Laurence's journey using the platform, but also show existing creators views of what it's like.    Where? We will be browsing on as many platforms as possible, due to the fact Onlyfans creators use a wide range of platforms to promote themselves. We will be on youtube 'watching the vlog footage of Josee and Laurence', we will be on Twitter finding people on the feed, Instagram watching the insta stories etc. We wanted to use a variety of platforms that encaptivate the online world and the world of Onlyfans. When? We ...

Testing a sequence:

We have come to a point in the documentary where we all agree that there needs to be some change in tone and pacing. We are going to show Josee 'getting ready' to create Onlyfans content, while showing a perspective of the 'consumer' about to interact with the content. This works at a very good time as after this sequence we hear of Josee getting a sub on her Onlyfans, so it could be interpreted as that was the individual who subbed interacting with her work.  The montage in question would be a rhythmic sequence as Josee gets ready, ending in royalty free footage presenting a metaphorical orgasm. This works a s a comedic sequence, but it's also us addressing the norm of this world, by presenting it in this way it has a little more subtilty and it's done in a respectful way. At the moment it's an idea we are attempting and hopefully it fits in well. We do feel we need something there to alter the pacing, that many editing theories advise you do.

Copyright in our Documentary:

One of the main additions of desktop documentary is the use of pre-existing footage out there already. We of course 'mimicked' this with some of the self-filmed footage from both the participants, but we still did use clips that wasn't ours in the opening sequence and elsewhere. To avoid the issue of copyright we would claim everything we used was fair use due to the fact it is already out there on Youtube and the footage shown was only small segments from the full videos. One of the other issues that could come up with copyright is the use of the song 'The Internet is for Porn' from the musical Avenue Q. To avoid the issue of using the actual song, we used a cover that was recorded on Youtube and played this, as if it was the song on Spotify. There may still be an issue with the song being played, but as we technically didn't use the actual song itself, we should be okay in this sense.

Sound in our Documentary:

From editing this documentary there is a clear lack of sound in the moments when no video is playing, these moments are found when we are scrolling through a feed and searching the web. In these parts all you hear is the clicking of the mouse and typing of the keyboard. Rodgers makes it clear that sound in the past has been undervalued and neglected, when in fact it is just as important as the image we see. This is most certainly true and although there is a clear lack of sound in our documentary, this has been more of an active decision rather than something we have forgotten about.  I wanted to highlight the sound as for our desktop doc I believe it works really well. I believe it immerses you into the screen and what you are seeing. As you watch the break in the silence tends to come from familiar sounds of a mouse click or typing on a keyboard and this is important as at the end of the day we are attempting to replicate the day to day experience of being on your laptop or...

Intro Sequence:

Image
This is a quick update highlighting what I have decided the intro sequence will be. We start on google and search twitter, here we scroll through our feed and find the tweet below by Sarah Millican about Onlyfans. This then spurs the user to look up onlyfans to find the official account of onlyfans. In the following seconds we will watch some of the promo videos for Onlyfans, the tempo here will pick up and this is when the screen will begin to fill up with sex pop ups, implying this content is 'tabboo' and 'wrong'.  To bring some information to this segment, the next thing to happen is the user will go onto youtube to find out more about the world of onlyfans, watching one of the videos we used in our pilot. This will; then give some necessary background info before we introduce our first pps through instagram. This will all move nicely into the next shots and will work perfectly.

Received Footage:

I have received footage from Josee of some things she has filmed of her 'diary accounts', her setting up shots and screen recordings of her screen. This is just and update to say I have gotten it and that with the screen recordings of her screen it makes our desktop documentary be on any laptop. As she has a mac and I have windows our screens will look different, but our documentary doesn't need to be on one device and can easily transfer to different devices, just like it transfers to different apps etc. To make the transition seamless we will need to get more screen recordings of different things, but this is something we will adapt over time.
