Week 2 - Visual Storytelling
In todays seminar we looked through all of the trailers we created for our first term submissions and all gave our input on them regarding on how well they were created and how visually engaging they were.
The main thing that came up in this discussion was that the majority of us didn't indulge in the idea of showing and not telling enough. For example, in our trailer we had a variety of different YouTube clips used of people discussing the positive and negatives of Onlyfans. There was one section that was a bit longer where a woman explained what onlyfans was, the issue with this is we should have had a focus on showing it during this part, instead of just having it down as a discussion. This is due to the fact we could have lost the viewers in this part, they could have been distracted or lose focus, especially in a short 3 minute trailer where they have to be as engaged as possible. This is something we will take into our actual documentary as we will have a similar set up in the intro of our documentary to give some background to what it is. Now we are aware of the benefits of showing and not telling, we will be sure to explore that more in the full thing.
